Advancing data-intensive research in Australia

The Australian Data Science Network is promoting the October 2021 report released by the Australian Academy of Science entitled “Advancing data-intensive research in Australia”. I joined close to 40 interested people online for the first in a series of six webinars, on Friday 13 May.

Emeritus Professor Michael Barber, co-author of the report, gave an overview of the report and Distinguished Professor Kerrie Mengersen guided us through the main recommendations. Professor Jane Elith, also a report co-author, told us about ALADIN, an Data Interworking Network of the five learned academies in Australia. Discussion was unfortunately limited by the length of the webinar but the comments int the Zoo Chat window were lively and I’m sure the panel will taken them on to inform the next seminar in the series.

For an interesting personal take on interdisciplinary research, this paper was recommended.
